ABC's of Juice Fasting

We all have seen the infomercials of once over weight individuals standing with their before and after pictures, exclaiming how great they feel, much more focus and tons of energy due to "juice fasting". You can't turn on the television without someone selling a high powered blender or juicer promising all kinds of miracle health benefits and drastic weight loss, but do they work for loosing weight?

 

"Juice fasting" has been around for hundreds of years and used by many different cultures for different reasons.

This is not about starving your self, but to blend a variety of fruits and vegetables and have them as a juice to satisfy your daily intake. Each juice contains a variety of ingredients and is designed to replace a meal.

Juice Fasting Recipes

Easy Breezy Cucumber Cooler Recipe

4 carrots
1 cucumber
1 stalk celery
1 apple
1/2 lemon, peeled

Put all ingredients through the juicer, then pour over ice.

Pineapple Watermelon Mango Juice

Pineapple Watermelon Mango Juice

1/2 of a pineapple
1/2 of a mini watermelon
1 mango
1 cup filtered water

Core and cut pineapple in half, then into chunks that will fit through your juicer chute.   Cut watermelon in half.  Cut the green outer rind away, then cut watermelon into large chunks.  Peel mango and cut into slices. Discard inner core/pit.  Push all ingredients through juicer.  Add one cup cold filtered water.  Chill for at least 30 minutes, then serve over ice.  Makes 4 cups.

 

Stomach Cleanser

Ingredients:
1 bunch Grapes
1 basket Strawberries
3 Apples
4 sprigs Fresh Mint
Water

 

Healing Juice

Ingredients:
3-4 Carrots
125g Fresh Spinach
Handful of Flat Leaf Parsley
2-3 Sticks of Celery
Water

Who shouldn't practice Juice Fasting

  • Pregnant women and children shouldn't try "juice fasting"
  • People with diabetes, low blood sugar, eating disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, anemia, infection, low blood pressure, immune system failure, epilepsy, addictions, or other chronic conditions.
  • People shouldn't try "juice fasting" before or after surgery
  • A "juice fasting" can reduce the blood proteins in the body and change the way prescription drugs react in the body.
  • A Physician should be notified before attempting a "juice fast".
