IL Gov. Picks Roland Burris to fill Senate Seat

I want to thank, BST Member, US House Rep. Bobby Rush, for speaking up today infavor of Roland Burris! I think it is important to have at least one US Senator be a Black person and Roland Burris is quality person and Statesman! The move also is Gov. Blago's way of getting back at the folks who want to impeach him. People want to say the Gov. is "crazy" but, this has to be one of the most clever moves made by anyone in Il. Government history! Now let the games and in-fighting begin! I bet the Gov. is saying to himself, "How you like me now"?!!!!!! LOL

Again, Thank You House Rep. Bobby Rush for standing up and "doing the right thing"!!!! So today Harry Reid, says the Senate will seat Senator Burris! Duh! This why the Dems. have a hard time winning! Well, Gov. Blago may be on the way to the "Big House" but, he out smarted the Il Gov., US Senate and President Elect Obama! Now, let's get to work to "bailout the US Home Owners" and force these banks to loan the money they got from our tax dollars!!!!!!

Well, here we go back to the 50's and 60's!!! Harry Reid, does not want a BLACK person in the Senate! Please support BST member, Rep. Rush! Call 217-782-7017, tell Jessie White to "do the right thing"!!!! Don't let this go down without a fight! This should be a lesson to Black folks, don't let the fact that we have President Elect Obama let you be fooled into thinking that America is no longer a place where race matters! Speaking of Obama, he is wrong not to standing up for Senator Burris!!! This not a good sign!!!!

In a Country with 39 million Black folks, it a "shame" that we can't have one Black person as a Senator, without it being a big deal! But, I hope folks are watching this mess; they will see that even though we have President Elect Obama, race is still a problem in AMERICA! The right wing had the nerve to pick Sarah Palin, has their choice for V.P.!!!!! Come on now, then say Obama had a "thin Resume'"!!!!!! I am not saying we should have a Black person as an official just because they are Black but, I am saying let us give folks with "the right stuff" a chance to lead, regardless of their color-period! Rev. Dr. King's Dream-ain't come to pass yet, I a sorry to say!

Wow! I am really speechless......Blago must have did something to the water on the Southside.LOL!
He is sooooo crooked and deceitful. Come on brothers and sisters take the red pill and get out of the matrix. Just kidding!
I will have to agree to disagree on this one. Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully Blago won't be the governor much longer.

I am appalled by the lack of maturity on the part of Illinois politicians who are making stupid statements against Governor Blagojevich who is continuing to do his job despite the avalanche of propaganda going on around him. In his appointment of Roland Burris, I cannot think of anyone better qualified with the concerns of the people of the State than he. I am so proud of the Governor that he continues to hold his head high and continue with the business of the State of Illinois.
As a "wannabe" student of law, I would like to do a roll call on all those who are pointing a finger at the governor to see if they are violating their oath of office. I would guarantee you that 100% of them have violated that oath, especially when they put their hand on the Bible and lied that they would uphold the Constitution. Jesse White, if he refuses to certify Roland Burris as the Senator from Illinois is not keeping his sworn duty.
I say to the Governor that none of us are qualified to judge him, though many are doing just that! This media frenzy is simply outrageous, immature, and totally ridiculous. I can see a gigantic attempt to seize the Governor's authority for vain purposes that do not necessarily represent the "will of the people", let alone the Will of God.

Hussein, I totally agree with you about the Third party representation and I think the republicans should be more represented here as well. One party that rules anything isn't good!!! Democrat or Republican. I know whites have been voting for whites for years but that didn't make our society any better either. We shouldn't just vote any black person in because they are black. We should vote the most qualified person in office. Now Todd Stroger Jr. he inherited that seat as well as another white congressman from his father. That's not democracy at all!!! Todd did have a lot to do with the tax hike and was very irresponsible with his pay raises and nurse lay offs. Now, I wonder if Blago appointed a white man if everyone on here would be so supportive of his appointment. I remember in 2000 a young black man running for congress was called a white man with a black face simply because he lived in diverse community and was saying pretty much the same things I am saying. Now he will be our next president on January 20th and those same people were seen crying at Grant Park! Times are changing and in order for more black representation in the United States Senate to occur. We have to stop talking the race of the candidate out in the open like this. Barack never once said " I am the best Black candidate for this job!" even though he felt that way.
No, he said I am the best qualified person for this job because he knew what he had to do to satisfy those white folk in IA and other predominately white areas. Hussein, the only way we are going to get ahead is if we play the same game with them. That can only happen when these old school politicians, leaders and Ministers take a note from the Obama campaign. 61% of his votes were white and how did he get them? With a new way of thinking outside the black box. I want a larger African American and female prescene nationally but we can't keep thinking like Rush, Davis and Jackson. That's all I am saying~ Even if the candidate feel that way he/she shouldn't openly mention the race issue anymore if he wants to capture downstate votes. Don't Shoot me!!!! ha ha

Dear Tasha,

I Love you too! I don't stop being friends with folks because people disagree with me; if I did I would not have any friends! LOL! I want someone who can solve the economy as well. As far as race, let's "Keep it Real", White folks have been voting for White Folks, just because they are White since the 1700's !!!! The Gov. is still in office and has the duty to appoint a Senator to President Elect Obama's old seat! That is Il. law-period! Until, Blago is impeached or in a court of law found Guilty, then the game goes on! By the way, it is not all Todd fault that the Cook Co. tax is so high; part of the problem is the economy, the other part is the way the government in this CO. and State are run! We all know there are "shady" deals in Chicago, Cook Co. and the State of Il. There is no reason in the world for the streets that were done less than 2 years ago to have the potholes we have now! It is less than 2 weeks into this Winter!!!!! I have always said we need a third party in Chicago and in the US!!!!!

Although I can agree with what Rep. Rush has said in reference to the lack of Black representation in the U.S. Senate, I don't feel that this particular instance is the best time to make that argument.

I'm not in Illinois and not aware of Mr. Burriss' achievements, but I do hope that are of a substantial nature and justifies his taking up of the vacant seat. If it isn't, this just sets us back as a people as Rep. Rush has left the impression that a Black should sit on that seat just becuase of his skin color and without any other merit or qualification and that's wrong. I could care less what racial composition a person is made of, as long as they have the honorable desire to serve his/her constituents and their communities. That should be the only mitigating factor ever at play and one we haven't always seen from our elected official, no matter what the shade.

I'm so tired of Blacks complaining about the lack of representation in the political arena when those who sometimes step up aren't really qualified to do so or don't support the candidates of color on local and state levels. Politics, home, education - it all stars at the bottom and works upward. If we don't have them, maybe it's because too many of us have become accustomed to someone carrying the torch for us, instead of picking it up and running with it ourselves. We can't cry racism or discrimination at every unjustice we see, sometimes, we are our own worst enemies. By crying discrimination at every opportunity goes against what the entire civil rights movement is about and give credence to those who say that equal opportunity is unfair. We have to take responsibility for our own actions and if we want to see more Black officials, we need to step up and BECOME them and most importantly, SUPPORT those who do. There are no great people, there are only ordinary people who do great things. We need to become the solution instead of perpetuating the problem.

Blogojevich did what the Constitution empowered him to do and keeping the seat Democratic was to me, of far more importance than seating a Black person. I think he's far from crazy, but perhaps deluded and drunk with power would be a better description. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Was it a power move? Absolutely, and meant solely to satisfy his needs. Time shall only tell if he had the best interest of the Illinois people and his party in mind with the choice of Mr. Burriss' selections. His actions in the Senate will attest to his true intent and if it's anything less than honorable, he shouldn't get too comfortable with the position, he won't be there long.I don't doubt or question Burriss' qualifications, but I certainly question Blogo's judgement on this. I'm sure that there are plenty of other viable candidates who are just as deserving to fill this seat but perhaps not considered because of his need to be vindictive towards the Illinois political power structure to maintain some semblance of power or political relevance. I do wish the Attorney General would bring down the indictments so that we can be clear as to what his (Blagojevich) role was, but you must admit, what has been publically released definitely doesn't play to his favor or can be taken out of context.

I don't agree with the stance taken by Democrats by not recognizing the Blagojevich's appointee. It's not productive and is basically a distraction that the Republicans are sure to take advantage of and frankly, is a divisive matter when we have too many other major issues on the table that will require unity in the party as the Republicans will be ready to block every item chaired by a Democrat. No time to play, folks.
